Abstract
Climate change poses unprecedented challenges to natural systems, built environments, and societal well-being, requiring coordinated and innovative responses across engineering disciplines. Engineering plays a critical role in both mitigating the drivers of climate change and adapting infrastructure and systems to its inevitable impacts. This paper examines recent and emerging engineering innovations that contribute to climate change mitigation and adaptation, highlighting technological solutions that reduce greenhouse gas emissions while enhancing resilience to climate-related risks. The study explores advancements in renewable energy systems, low-carbon infrastructure, sustainable transportation, climate-resilient urban design, water resource management, and disaster risk reduction technologies. In addition, the paper discusses the growing importance of digital tools, human-centric design, and policy-aligned engineering approaches in supporting effective climate action. By synthesizing engineering strategies across multiple sectors, this paper underscores the need for integrated, systems-oriented solutions that align technological innovation with environmental sustainability and societal needs. The findings emphasize that engineering innovation is essential for enabling a balanced and long-term response to climate change, bridging mitigation efforts with adaptive capacity.
